Environmental and Social Safeguards Policy
Our Commitment
At The Carbon Bank, we care about doing things the right way. Our carbon dioxide removal (CDR) projects aren’t just about tackling climate change—they’re about considering the planet and people. That’s why we aim to align with the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) principles, in this case Principle 9, which encourages carbon projects to have positive environmental and social impacts.
Our Guiding Principles
Considering Nature and People: We aim to prioritise ecosystems and communities, seeking to protect biodiversity and natural resources while generating positive social outcomes.
Managing Risks and Working with the Right Partners: We look to identify and address environmental and social risks throughout our projects which is why we collaborate with organisations that align with our values, as outlined in our Partners Policy.
Ongoing Learning and Adaptation: Sustainability is a process of continuous improvement. We aim to refine and update our safeguards based on lessons learned, industry insights, and feedback. This includes reviewing policies, partnerships, and methods to maintain transparency and relevance.
Implementing Our Principles
To uphold our commitment to environmental and social safeguards, we aim to:
Consider Independent Frameworks: We only employ recognised best practices, which is why we commit to high-integrity, independent frameworks such as the Isometric Standard and the Woodland Carbon Code.
Develop and Implement Mitigation Plans: Where risks are identified, we look to create mitigation plans. These plans are incorporated into project processes and monitored as needed.
Encourage Accountability: We aim to track environmental and social outcomes, reviewing progress and adapting where needed. If gaps are found, we look for ways to address them to continuously improve our approach.
At the Carbon Bank, our focus is on more than just removing carbon—we seek to do it in a way that acknowledges people, considers nature, and promotes responsible action. We see this as a long-term effort, always evolving and adapting to improve.
